Our
Mission Our
laboratory seeks solutions for vascular and urological pathologies by applying
our strengths in biomechanics, cell biology, and bioengineering at an accelerated
pace. Our laboratory represents successful collaborations within the University
of Pittsburgh, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the McGowan Institute
for Regenerative Medicine. We are training the researchers of tomorrow with cutting
edge ideas and technology in the following specific research areas:
-
Creation of novel bulk and surface seeding devices for tissue engineering
-
Development of a tissue engineered blood vessel using in vivo and in vitro model
systems
-
Understanding of the mechanobiology of macrophages and progenitor cells in two-
and three-dimensional models
-
Mechanopathobiological assessment of atherosclerosis and intimal hyperplasia
-
Prevention of intimal hyperplasia using ex vivo conditioning and tissue engineering
techniques
-
Development of patient-specific rupture potential index for abdominal aortic aneurysms
-
Biomechanical assessment of urethral incontinence
- Development
of a tissue engineered urethral support for incontinence
